There’s no denying that the news agenda is moving faster than a barman at a PR awards ceremony. This has meant that a lot of news might not be getting the kudos it deserves.
Each week during the pandemic, we’ll be gathering a summary of stories that have piqued our interest that you’ve missed.
Supporting the Scottish seafood sector
Like many industries, Scotland’s fishermen, processors and distributors haven’t been able to avoid the crashing waves that Covid-19 has created. Our client, Seafood Scotland knew that something needed to be done and worked closely with the Scottish Government to create the Scottish Seafood Business Resilience Fund. The fund will provide a combination of grants and loans to businesses suffering severe hardship following the shutdown of international markets and the food service industry across the UK. Every day is a school day
Well, maybe not for children across the country right now. But for those of the working population whether working, on furlough, or looking for new opportunities, the business community have come together to provide support. This has included several outfits launching free training. A great one that we’ve come across is from The Data Lab which is launching free online courses from 20th April. The first will focus on deriving value from data. Within PR, insight and data are worth their weight in gold, so we’ll be signing up to this one too! Find out more here.
GCC helps the NHS
We’ve been bursting with admiration watching organisations and individuals coming together to manufacture invaluable PPE equipment for frontline NHS staff. Even more so when one of our clients, Glasgow Clyde College, stepped up to donate medical equipment and PPE from all of its campuses to the NHS. Resources normally used in the engineering, horticulture, construction, nursing and beauty departments were gathered and donated to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, which is currently converting surgical wards into respiratory intensive care units, but with limited equipment to do so. And finally,
With the Easter weekend just a day away, we were heartened to see New Zealand PM, Jacinda Ardern deem the Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy be reclassified as essential workers in the country. Hope this follows suit in the UK soon…lockdown chocolate is what keeps us going.
Check back here next week for more #ICYMI. Until then…stay safe.
